Support Southern Boulevard BID This Giving Tuesday!

Today marks Giving Tuesday, a day when charities, families, businesses, communities, and students around the world can come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

The Southern Boulevard Business Improvement District which is a 501c3 non-profit that promotes the growth, vitality, and visibility of the premiere commercial corridor in the Hunts Point & Longwood community of The Bronx. Our work includes advocating for small businesses and property owners on Southern Boulevard between 163rd Street & 167th Street concerning matters of sanitation, safety, and overall economic growth. We also engage our South Bronx community through direct outreach, diverse programming, and inclusive community events.

Some of the programs and services that we provided for our community this year were:

  • Our Annual Children’s Winter Coat Giveaway, where we provided the children of our community, ages three to sixteen, with a new high-quality winter coats that will keep them warm throughout the winter; while helping to alleviate the economic burden this annual purchase can place on many families.

  • A temporary art exhibit in Del Valle Square plaza that celebrated the artwork, poetry, and heritage of dozens of South Bronx children as part of the 2021 South Bronx Culture Trail.

  • Organized ten community clean-up events between March and October of this year, in addition to our year-round in-house maintenance and sanitation services that keep our corridor clean, safe, and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

  • Launched a graffiti removal program that covered graffiti on 148 storefronts and 54 street structures, serviced 75 tree pits each month, and coordinated the removal of thousands of pounds of illegal dumping that occurred this summer.

  • Provided one-on-one grant and loan assistance for dozens of local businesses that were struggling to survive due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We also provided social distancing signage for stores, PPE for area employees, submitted outdoor dining permits for restaurants, and informed business owners about critical updates regarding new regulations and programs affecting NYC commercial properties and businesses.

Though we are thrilled with the work we have been able to do to date, the cost of operations and need for the programs and services that we provide has increased dramatically. To meet this demand for expanded services, the Southern Boulevard Business Improvement District is seeking to raise an additional $25,000 this Giving Tuesday. All the funding that we receive towards this goal will be used to hire more individuals from our community to work as part of our maintenance program, expand our beloved annual events, and provide additional resources for our small business community. With this vital funding, our organization will be able to increase operations and our commercial district will continue to thrive!

Will you help us meet our $25,000 Giving Tuesday Goal?
